About Us
Peduncles and Petioles, formerly Flowers with Flair, is a collective of plant and flower enthusiasts with a passion for sharing the joys that they bring. Our team of “new” owners, gained all their skills and know-how from being raised in the flower shop setting. Melissa and Stephanie, starting in the shop at 14 years old respectively, watched their mom, Suzanne, create the most beautiful flowers and connections in our community. Tree was also recruited at a young age, then followed outside passions but always came back to the flower life. Kristen started as a loyal customer but was quickly welcomed with open arms into our flower family. Our love of flowers and plants brought us to the collective decision to take over Flowers with Flair when Suzanne decided to retire. We love the connections we've created with all our amazing customers, and just couldn't imagine doing anything else. Although we love what the Flowers with Flair brand has created, we wanted to have the business represent more of our personalities. So, going forward you'll find common and rare houseplants and care supplies, modern floral design, oddities, crystals, and more in our "new" little shop! Our team specializes in creating designs that invoke whimsical, gardeny, and outdoorsy feelings in modern floral design. Incorporating texture and movement, we create pieces that feel fairylike, funky, and unique while working in colourful palettes.
Meet our team
Melissa is our lead designer with 15 years of design experience. She leads wedding planning and coordination while keeping us all a little more organized. She loves moody, modern designs but can always create something that will take your breath away! She is well versed in houseplant care and is our resident ficus specialist. When she's not creating beautiful floral designs and keeping our team sane, she's keeping her mini zoo of pets and kids happy and safe, relaxing on the beach with her partner, Brett at their home away from home in Havilland, watching spooky movies, working on a puzzle, or listening to Chris Cornell or any 90's Grunge/Rock music.
Stephanie is our intermediate designer, one step up from junior! With blossoming skills and a design style all her own, Steph will create a fun, whimsical, modern arrangement for you in a snap. You'll recognize her from her signature green hair and her infectious laugh. Steph is also an Alocasia Queen, she can steer you in the right direction if you think you can't grow these sometimes temperamental plants. LECA or soil, she's your go-to Alocasia enthusiast! When she's not in the shop, you can find her playing cozy video games, snuggling her four kitties, listening to Hozier's discography and enjoying the outdoors with her husband, Andrew.
Kristen is one of the friendly faces you see at first contact. With an endless bounty of plant knowledge, she can troubleshoot any plant problems you might have, while also having a creative eye for design and colour. She creates many of the beautiful cut flower bouquets that we send out. As one of our junior designers, she is honing her skills in all things floral design. After hours you might find her digging in her houseplants or garden (depending on the season), snuggling her 3 kids or pets, enjoying adventures and admiring all things nature. She loves rewatching comfort TV shows and swooning over her husband, Patrick (rightfully so).
Tree is our social media wizard, while also being one of the voices you might hear answering your calls and one of the smiles you see walking in. She creates beautiful cut flower bouquets, and as another junior designer, is working on perfecting her floral design skills. Her humour keeps our team light and giggling, while her customer service skills exceed expectations of our customers regularly. When she's not at the shop, you might see her working at one of our local doctor's offices, chasing her kids around Goulais River, thinking up a new home project for her partner Andrew (yes, there's two of them), all while belting out Green Day/her new hyper fixation song.
